Beijing is the second largest Chinese city by urban population after Shanghai and is the nation's political , cultural , and educational center . It is home to the headquarters of most of China's largest state-owned companies , and is a major hub for the national highway , expressway , railway , and high-speed rail networks.
Tiananmen Square is a large city square in the center of Beijing, China, named after the Tiananmen Gate (Gate of Heavenly Peace) located to its North, separating it from the Forbidden City. Tiananmen Square is the third largest city square in the world (440,000 m² - 880m by 500m or 109 acres - 960 by 550 yd). It has great cultural significance as it was the site of several important events in Chinese history.

The front hill is rich with splendid halls and pavilions, while the back hill, in sharp contrast, is quiet with natural beauty.
The Temple of Heaven, is a complex of religious buildings situated in the southeastern part of central Beijing. The complex was visited by the Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for good harvest. It has been regarded as a Taoist temple, although Chinese Heaven worship, especially by the reigning monarch of the day, pre-dates Taoism.
Fragrant Hills Park is an imperial garden at the foot of the Western Mountains in the Haidian District, in the northwestern part of Beijing, China.Also known as Jingyi Palace or Jingyiyuan. It covers 1.6 km² (395 acres) and consists of a natural pine-cypress forest, hills with maple trees, smoke trees and persimmon trees, as well as landscaped areas with traditional architecture and cultural relics. The name derives from the park's highest peak, Xianglu Feng (Incense Burner Peak), a 557 meters (1827 ft) hill with two large stones resembling incense burners at the top.
Zhongnanhai is an imperial garden in central Beijing, China adjacent to the Forbidden City which serves as the central headquarters for the Communist Party of China and the State Council (Central government) of the People's Republic of China. The term Zhongnanhai is closely linked with the central government and senior Communist Party officials. It is often used as a metonym for the Chinese leadership at large (in the same sense that the term White House frequently refers to the President of the United States and his associates). The state leaders, including Xi Jinping and Hu Jintao, and other top CPC and PRC leadership figures carry out many of their day-to-day administrative activities inside the compound, such as meetings with foreign dignitaries. China Central Television frequently shows footage of meetings inside the compound, but limits its coverage largely to views of the interior of buildings.
The Great Hall of the People is located at the western edge of Tiananmen Square, Beijing, People's Republic of China (PRC). It is used for legislative and ceremonial activities by the PRC and the Communist Party of China. It functions as the meeting place of the National People's Congress, the Chinese parliament.

The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), and colloquially described as The Giant Egg, is an opera house in Beijing, People's Republic of China. The Centre, an ellipsoid dome of titanium and glass surrounded by an artificial lake, seats 5,452 people in three halls and is almost 12,000 m² in size. It was designed by French architect Paul Andreu. Construction started in December 2001 and the inaugural concert was held in December 2007.
Beijingnan Railway Station or Beijing South Railway Station is a large railway station in Fengtai District, Beijing, about 7.5 km (4.7 mi) south of the city centre, between the 2nd and 3rd ring Roads. The station opened on 1 August 2008 and replaced the old Beijing South Station, originally known as the Majiapu Railway Station and later called the Yongdingmen Railway Station which stood 500 m away and operated from 1897 to 2006. The new Beijing South Station, is the second largest in Asia, after Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, and joins the Beijing Railway Station and the Beijing West Railway Station as the third major passenger rail hub in the Chinese capital.It serves as the terminus for high-speed trains of the Beijing–Tianjin Intercity Rail and the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway, which can reach speeds above 350 km/h (217 mph).
Beijing TV Centre is a 41-floor 239 metres (784 ft) tall skyscraper completed in 2006 located in Beijing, China. It was designed by Japanese company Nikken Sekkei.The building is home to the Beijing Television- and is NOT the CCTV Headquarters which is another building nearby.

Tsinghua University , is a university located in Beijing. It was originally established in 1911 under the name "Tsinghua College" and had been renamed several times since then, from "Tsinghua School" which was used one year after its establishment to "National Tsinghua University" which was adopted in 1928 after the foundation of its university section in 1925, and now the "Tsinghua University". With a motto of Self-Discipline and Social Commitment, Tsinghua University describes itself as being dedicated to academic excellence, the well-being of Chinese society and to global development. Nowadays, the university is one of the nine tertiary institutes in the C9 League and has been frequently regarded as one of the top universities in mainland China by most national and international rankings.
Beijing Normal University, colloqiually known as Beishida, is a public research university located in Beijing with strong emphasis on basic disciplines of humanities and sciences. It is one of the oldest universities in China. A normal school referred to an institution that aimed to train school teachers in early twentieth century, and this terminology is preserved in the official names of such institutions in China.
